What a replacement involves

1. Find where the waste pipe goes: into the floor (S-trap) or into the wall (P-trap). For a floor outlet, measure from the finished wall to the centre of the outlet.
2. Choose a bowl listed for that outlet. A pan collar or connector can bridge a small difference; the installer confirms on site.
3. A PUB licensed plumber removes the old bowl, fits the new one and checks for leaks.
4. The old bowl is taken away. Ask whether removal and disposal are in the price.

What affects the installed price

• The bowl. Floor-standing bowls listed on this site cost from $174.40 to $2,602.92, bowl only.
• Whether it fits the outlet you have. A bowl made for a different outlet position means extra pipe work. Moving to a wall-hung bowl is a renovation job: what that involves.
• Removal and disposal of the old bowl.
• The floor under the old bowl. If the new bowl has a smaller footprint, part of the floor that was covered may show.
• Smart bowls need a power point near the bowl. Ask whether one is needed.

We do not publish installed prices. Installers quote for your toilet after seeing your answers, and photos if you send them.

Before you agree to a quote

• Fitting or changing a toilet bowl is sanitary work for a PUB licensed plumber. Since 1 April 2018 it is an offence to engage an unlicensed plumber for regulated works (PUB: plumbing works).
• Check the plumber’s licence on PUB’s licensed plumber search.
• In an HDB flat, ask your contractor to confirm HDB’s guidelines for replacing toilet pans (HDB: water and sanitary plumbing works).
• The bowl must carry at least 2 WELS ticks (PUB: WELS requirements).
• Get the bowl model, the seat, removal and disposal in writing.
